On Sunday evening (18th February), Christine was invited to sing during a special Evening Service, hosted by Canon Ed Newell. The service was titled 'How Sweet the Sound!' and was a meditation of the priest, hymn-writer and anti slavetrade campaigner John Newton - in the bicentenary year of both Newton's death and of the Act of Parliament that brought an end to British slave trade.

During the service, the Canon told the story of Newton's remarkable life and in particular his transition from being a slave trader himself, to one of the most prominent campaigners against the slave trade. Throughout the service, Christine sang some of Newton's best loved hymns together with spirituals that were originally sung by slaves.
